Christopher Thomas
Music Producer     Sound Designer     Composer
About Me
I am Christopher Thomas, a hardworking and determined individual striving to become an expert sound designer and composer. I am also a talented music producer, working with a variety of artists, both songwriting and mixing productions.

I was born and raised in North London, UK. I am currently studying an MA in Music and Sound for Film & Games at The University of Hertfordshire. This course has taught me a lot about the theory and practicalities behind fitting sound design and composition to visual productions; practicing with narrative film, video games and trailers.

Additionally, I am a graduate from the University of York achieving a 2:1 in Electronic Engineering with Music Technology Systems. This course covered a huge range of topics, from the electrical modules involving C and Java programming, to the more musical based assignments where recording techniques were used to produce professional sounding tracks and audio for media/film.

What You Need
Composition
Composing music has been a passion of mine since I was a child. It started as a hobby, composing piano pieces on Sibelius, and has transformed into scoring for film and television shows. During my masters studies, I gained the necessary theoretical knowledge of how to analyse and approach visual productions to effectively emphasise narration. With every soundtrack I compose, I aim to be innovative and push boundaries, experimenting with all genres.
Sound Design
Sound design not only encompasses all on-screen foley sounds, but focuses on creating particular atmospheres and varying levels of tension to fit the on screen narration. Sound design can be used creatively to enhance on screen emotions, and this is something that I find fascinating to see and create.
Music Production
Being a music lover, I am able to appreciate and be inspired by every genre. This means I am able to effectively re-create the needs of artists, whilst being able to add my own twist on production where needed. I have been producing music for around 10 years, being initially taught using the software Logic Pro, then continuing to practise with a range of DAWs. In the past 3 years I have been working with a range of producers, songwriters, singers, rappers and session musicians, giving me lots of experience in studio settings.
Mixing / Recording / Engineering
When it comes to the mix, it is not only a matter of skill but an understanding of what genre it is, and the desires of the artist. Through my undergraduate course we had extensive training on the various techniques and effects you can use to shape and elevate amateur productions into professional sounding records. In addition, we learnt about the different microphones, positioning and recording techniques to get the best out of each artist and musician. I have a lot of experience engineering production, vocalist and ADR sessions.
Session Musician
I have been playing music since the age of 5, starting with Piano and then beginning Flute and Cello at the age of 7. I have achieved a grade 8 in both Flute and Cello, having played in many orchestras, quartets and solo of course!
